Instructor Bios
Mason joined the club as an adult volunteer when his son joined back in the Fall of 2016. He helped support his son and daughter, along with other club members, throughout the years since his son first joined the club, all the way to today being a leader and the lead instructor for the club.
In the spring of 2019 Mason received his Level 1 Archery Instructor Certification. This came at a great time since the previous club leaders announced that they would be stepping down. With that, the club needed new leadership. Working with the extension office over the summer, things became final and with the club relocation of the club, Mason became the new Lead Adult Volunteer, Club Coordinator and Lead Instructor for the club and received his Club Coordinator Certification in the Spring of 2020. In October of 2024 he traveled to North Carolina to Participate in the National Training receiving his 4-H Level 2 Archery Instructor Certification.
Since taking over the club, Mason has helped the club thrive and evolve into what it is today. From helping the club achieve many NRA Foundation Grants for new equipment, Storage Trailers and Storage Containers, to even getting our club participation numbers to one of its highest seasons, with having over 30 total members registered.
From having is son John Mason grow up through the program, going to many archery tournaments, to include the 2022 4-H Shooting Sports Nationals, to the Collegiate level at JMU, to now his youngest daughter Clara growing up and participating in the club and club’s competition team. Even working as a camp adult volunteer since 2017. Mason surely has a huge role and means a lot, not just to the club, but to its people and community too.
Mason serves as a Captain with Prince William County Fire and Rescue in Northern Virginia, and has been serving as a firefighter since he was 15.
In the summer of 2024 Mason became one of our club’s original 3 Virginia 4-H All Stars alongside his son John Mason, and son’s best friend Lucien.
Leisa joined the club as an adult volunteer back in 2015 when her son Lucien joined the club. She helped support her son and the other club members throughout the years that Lucien was a member of the club, to now both of them being adult volunteers, leaders, and instructors for the club.
In the spring of 2020 Leisa received her Level 1 Archery Instructor Certification. This came at a great time since the club was under new leadership and was in need of more instructors to keep up with student to instructor ratios. With this wonderful timing, Leisa became one of our next set of instructors. In October of 2024 she traveled to North Carolina to Participate in the National Training receiving her 4-H Level 2 Archery Instructor Certification.
Since taking over the club, Leisa has helped the club flourish. She brings a needed calm to sport of archery, from helping younger archers to her own son, to even her son’s best friend through the sport. Leisa is a valuable part of our club leadership and her efforts and support doesn’t go unnoticed.
With having her son participate throughout the years to him now being one of the club leaders and instructors alongside her, and having her son now compete in the professional and collegiate level of archery, she has worked with many accomplished archers that have been a result of this club, to include John Mason, Lucien, Anna, Clara and many more. Even working as a camp adult volunteer since 2022. She strives to bring the best out of all the members and to help them flourish in the sport that they love and a place that they love to call home.
Leisa is a Licensed Professional Counselor and helps people when and where needed. She is such an integral part of this club and for that we are grateful.
